7 May

Last night was the annual Met Ball Gala in New York and this years dress code was a little more edgy than previous years – This year, guests were asked to go Punk! With this in mind I was excited to see how my favorite celebrity mums were going to style their red carpet looks, whilst retaining the glitz and glamour of previous years.

In true Punk fashion – studs, spikes and dramatic make-up were the theme of the night. Leather, lace and brocade were also in abundance. As with most celebrity style events there were some fashion hits, as well as some impressive fashion faux-pas. (Sorry Kim Kardashian, but I have to mention you, again, here. Matching shoes and all!)

Sarah Jessica Parker really stood out in an elaborate Giles Deacon dress and Louis Vuitton boots. (I want those boots!) As did yummy mummy Beyonce who went all out sexy-punk in a risque Givenchy gown split to the thigh with matching gloves. Model Mum Miranda Kerr choose a cut-out-maxi by Micheal Korr’s, keeping it simple in comparison. Sienna Miller and Nicole Richie also opted for a more subtle-punk-look, dressed in white. They still managed to add some edge – Sienna teamed her dress with a studded jacket and headband, whilst Nicole added drama with her hair and make-up.

One of my favorites, Gisele, opted for a shorter style complete with chain mail detailing, by Anthony Vacarello. As did  fellow Victoria’s Secret’s model, Karolina Kurkova. She choose a one-shoulder style from Mary Katrantzou statement print collection. With legs like these I don’t blame them for wanted to bare-all, I would!

Jessica Alba was stunning in lace Tory Birch and Gwyneth Paltrow added a burst of colour in an awkward looking hot-pink gown. (Neither look was particularly punk? Perhaps they didn’t get the memo?)

My favorite look of the night, has to be Kate Bosworth in Balmain. She is not a mum yet, but I just love her. She is one of my style icons and I cannot wait to see how she styles pregnancy. (If and when…….)

I also loved Linda Evangelista’s choice of chiffon and embellishment. (I can see not everyone will agree with me here…)  She looked eccentric, yet elegant, almost wedding-inspired. She really reminded me of Lady Havisham from Great Expectations.

Scroll down to see all the images from the night. Which is your favorite?
